Lucky as Clover

So a view from IKEA.  Loved this couch although its too big for any room in my place.  The colors in this room are pretty much what I want for my bedroom except the wood.  & of course add in some purple.  But I love the wall color & the multiple lights hanging together.  Not sure my Dad was thrilled with it…. hands on the hips could mean anything! He didn’t complain though!

So in the spirit of being Irish I honor March 17th… even if I don’t really get the whole St Patricks deal.  A reason to drink green beer or drink til I’m green, I will pass.  Going around pinching everyone who isn’t wearing the color green? I really don’t understand where that tradition came from at all.  Maybe the spirit of conformity?  Which is the main reason I have grown not to enjoy the day.  My understanding is that St Patrick ran the snakes from Ireland…. or in less childlike terms, ran the pagans out.  They either left, hid or converted.  Not really very tolerant.  I tend to believe we all have our own paths to follow & that right should be honored (yes understand that this is as long as it doesn’t include harming others).

But there are some other symbols of the holiday that I do love.

There are countless hours that have been spent by my mom & all of us in the yard looking into the clover patches.  Believe it or not we are highly skilled at finding 4 leaf clover! We have books filled with the proof ready to fall out if you dare open them.  Long ago placed inside the pages to press flat.  Sometimes we looked while waiting for others to get in the car so we could go somewhere.  Sometimes it was an excuse to just get away & outside.  Be quite & think or not think.  Sort of a meditation.

Also love the idea of leprechauns lurking around outside just waiting to be discovered.  The idea that the more you look the closer you are to finding your own pot of gold is such a perfect concept.  Sure it may not be a pot of gold you find, but the joy you discover in following your heart may be worth far more than anything you can place in a cauldron.

So I will wear green, because its a color I love.  I will search of the pots of gold and 4 leaf clovers in my life & hope that I make the choices that bring me the best life I can have & will continue to love those who walk their own paths, defying the conformity.

Besides who wants to be the 3 leafed clover no one picks when they were born to sprout 4 leaves?

now off to dream of all things green…

Wordless Wednesday

…well its me, probably will never be WORDLESS!

This is from Saturday night. I looked over while waiting in the parking deck for the elevator & just thought WOW.  This functional way of getting down the levels of the parking deck, struck me as art.

Which leads me to think, why can’t everything in life be seen as beautiful?

Sure no one enjoys certain aspects, but they have meaning & reason.  If nothing other than to live through & serve as an example.

I promise I will update more later.  Been enjoying time with the family but am home again now & off to an interview followed by meeting a friend (I’m hesitant to call this one a date just yet).

Besides, I have TONS of IKEA inspiration to share…. ahhhh-key-aaaah!

I’m going to…

the home decorators’ Disney World!!!

Yes its a beautiful day.  I’m packing up the crew & heading to IKEA.

If I don’t return, well I will be happily ever after spending my days in a smart, wonderful living room set up or dreaming my nights away in a functional and affordable bedroom set.

Pug Party & My Saturday Adventure

Today was the first time Baxter & I were able to attend the local pug meet up group!  It was fantastic!

yes that's Baxter right up front coming towards me!

Pugs everywhere!

new friends everywhere!

We took over the dog park – although a few other small dogs stayed around to be honorary pugsters!

Baxter is already ready for next month's meet up... & a nap...& a bath...

So home it was to get in a nap… & off to explore a few sites of my own since this nap was sure to be a long one.

missing the convertible but the sunroof is still nice!

First a pit stop for something delish… a BBQ chicken sandwich at one of my favorite places – Chris’ Cosmic Kitchen! If you are in the Wilmington, NC area, this place is a MUST try.  WARNING you will crave it after you taste it & there are not enough days in the week to try everything you want to there. But if you are brave, attempt the Large Stack of pancakes! Only 5 people have been able to finish them.  If you do you get to join the hall of fame & even get a T-shirt!  Impressive.

Seriously good stuff! He even makes the BBQ sauce from scratch.

After lunch I decided to drive just out of town to check out an antique store to see if it might be a good place to get some furniture to fix up – after I end up getting in a better financial place…. like with a job!

No real luck, but it was an eye opener to see a few things I had as a kid being sold IN AN ANTIQUE store!

I had one of these! ....but I'm guessing no one paid $95 for it!

Tempted by this (THE MUPPETS!!!) but in the spirit of decluttering, I left it on the 50% off shelf. I'm STRONG!

So no luck there.  On to another shop that I always tend to find something I wish I could bring home with me.  But I wasn’t sure if they had beds…. found out they had a few, but not many queens & not really any that worked with the look I was going for, even repainted.  Still the stock changed every week so it could be fun hunting just in case.

I was able to spot a few pieces that with some paint & maybe new hardware might be great finds!

Both of these caught my eye, but do I want more storage or comfort while sitting in front of the mirror? Both need some white paint!

Maybe its the colors on this, but its cute!

This sign did inspire... but I had to leave it there to inspire someone with more cash flow.

these lovely ladies wanted to come stay at my house, but we all decided they needed a grander (bigger) yard to view

The bonus here is that the longer it sits on the sales floor the more the price drops.  So when I do get the money coming in, these may even be a better deal.

So maybe I am open to a few other ideas than just the IKEA stuff.  But I still love my Hemnes pieces!  Who knows?! But what fun it is to dream.

Oh & as far as purchases… I did AWESOME!

Didn’t get a thing other than some creamer for tomorrow’s coffee & a few supplies to make it easier to eat in rather than picking up take out again.

yeah me.

Now…. where is that pug?  Its BATH TIME!

Put It On the Shelf

So lately I have been rethinking spaces & had to share a few ideas I love…

Family Room contemporary family room

Loving all the shelves & color with the light furniture.

Also I am needing to replace a couple lights in my own house.  Recently the grow lights I use for my birds (parrots need to get sunlight & don’t have the option to go outside to soak some up) started breaking.  They have given many years of great service, but I tossed one when it started to smoke! (Thankfully I was home!) & the other the off/on switch cracked so I tossed it.  So now I have bulbs & no where to plug them in!

the old trashed grow lights

Thankfully they have sun lights that are regular sized bulbwise so I am not restricted to the spotlight industrial looking ones.

So I’m on the hunt…. & need them to be cheap!  But I’m thinking something stylish too.  The fun begins.

Any ideas?

My Little Star

So today Baxter got his taste of fame!

I submitted the picture of him “reading” the IKEA catalog I got the other day & today he is now know as “The Shop-a-holic”!

hey sup, just checking out some new furniture for my bachelor pad .. NBD!

I have an official GQ Pet on my hands!

Course this isn’t his first time around the web…. he was also the pet of the day at Daily Pet Pic back in August!

What can I say? I adore him.

He’s pugalicious!

Its the small joys in life that you can’t help but smile about.

Things like listening to him snore away as he is snuggles up against me right now.  Or how happy his eyes shined when I got home from running errands tonight.  Simple things like watching a curly lil tail wag like crazy & knowing in his eyes any choice I make is going to be right, as long as he gets to be with me.

IKEA may be contagious

So while my bedroom project may be on hold (as well as spending any money on anything extra til I can figure out what I am doing in life), I still long to start redecorating & changing.  Yesterday the IKEA catalog came in the mail & I couldn’t help but spend a few moments going through it.

I got up to refill my glass of water & came back to see this….

Course I had to snap a picture!

Baxter seems to approve of IKEA stuff & wants to help pick a few things out.  Shame he can’t he pay for some of it or even be allowed in the store to give his opinion on the options!  Maybe one day.

But not today.

Today is just for enjoying the day.  No alarms or travel mugs, just sleeping late & delicious regular mugs of coffee.

May even get to get out & start the photo scavenger hunt if the rain subsides.  Also have an event tonight that I have been looking forward to since I booked it with a bit of holiday cash a while back.

Going to be able to check off another thing off the life list, but more on all that later.  For now back to the pug snuggles & warm sips.
